Which CMS fits

Who headless with Astro pays off for

Four typical situations where a headless setup with an Astro frontend is the right call.

Backend stays, frontend lags

Your editors work smoothly, only delivery becomes the problem.

Performance & security critical

Statically delivered, no exposed database on the network.

Multiple delivery channels

Same content for website, app, newsletter – one backend, many frontends.

Strict data protection needs

Data location must be controllable – core of our approach.

How it works

WordPress (or a dedicated headless CMS) stays as the backend – that's where you maintain content as before. Astro fetches the content via an API and builds a static, blazing-fast frontend from it. The backend becomes the engine room, Astro the visible site.

Nothing essential changes about the editorial workflow for your team. The one point that does change – live preview – we plan for from the start, rather than glossing over.

Which CMS – we pick by requirement

We don't recommend the tool we like to sell most, but the one that fits your team and your data protection needs.

WordPress headless

If you know and want to keep WordPress. The most natural path.

How it works

Storyblok / Sanity

Dedicated headless CMSes with strong editor comfort, when EU hosting fits.

Headless CMS compared

Strapi / Directus / Payload

Self-hostable, full data control, ideal for strict GDPR requirements.

GDPR compliance

Data protection by design

We pay attention to GDPR compliance for data location – EU hosting or self-hostable systems, depending on requirements. We set up hosting at the provider of your choice, not at us. The binding assessment is yours and your data protection officer's; we deliver the technical foundation.

What it costs

Headless integrations are calculated after a short tech audit – effort and price depend on the existing system, content volume, and the chosen CMS.

First step

Tech audit

€500 – €2,000

We review your existing system, content structure, and URL map. From that, a solid quote – not a shot in the dark.

Astro base

from €4,000

The static Astro frontend with technical SEO and Schema.org. More on the Astro Agency page.

The headless CMS integration itself is added depending on the chosen system and content volume. Hosting is set up at the provider of your choice, not at us. For a full replatforming migration, plan additional effort for clean URL mapping and 301 redirects – see Replatforming to a headless system.

Frequently asked questions

Can we keep our existing WordPress?

Yes – that's actually the most common case. WordPress stays as your backend, Astro takes over only the frontend. Your editors continue working as they always have.

Will our data stay GDPR-compliant?

That depends on the chosen system and hosting location – which we clarify before tool selection, not after. We prefer EU hosting or self-hostable systems where your data stays where you want it.

What happens to live preview?

With a static frontend, preview needs its own solution – we plan that in from the start so your editors see changes before they go live.

Ready for an Astro frontend behind your CMS?

Tell us which backend you want to keep (or whether to choose a new one together) and how strict your data protection requirements are. We'll give you an honest assessment – including saying so when a classic CMS is the better choice for your case.
