I am Daniel. On most projects I am the person at the other end of the line – and since you should know who you are dealing with, this one section says “I” instead of “we”.

I grew up on the Lower Rhine and ended up in Franconia. The local Keller season – beer gardens dug into the hillside, open from spring to autumn – finally convinced me it was the right move. I am married and have two children.

When I am not programming: Magic the Gathering, for over thirty years now. Dungeons & Dragons. Motorcycling. Historical fencing. Heavy metal, medieval rock and goth in my headphones – and when nobody is listening, the occasional vocal house track. So: a nerd. Which fortunately surprises nobody these days.

What does that have to do with the work? Less than paragraphs like this one usually claim – a hobby is not a qualification. One thing does carry over, though: Magic, D&D and fencing are all rule systems where the interesting cases never appear in the core rulebook. They arise where two rules apply at once. In software projects, the bugs sit in exactly the same place.

Beyond that: I enjoy working with people and I like developing the ones on my team. I am open, honest and direct – occasionally more direct than people expect. And I leave room for humour in a project. Not as a method, but because tense collaboration does not make anything better in the end, only harder.

On AI, since everyone asks by now: I consider it both an opportunity and a risk. Anyone claiming only one of the two has not, in my view, spent long enough with it. We work with it – and we check every result before it goes into a project.
