WordPress to Astro Migration
For companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: a static Astro site replaces your WordPress install – faster, with less maintenance, on the same URLs.
Who it fits – and when it doesn't
Astro is not a universal answer – but it covers more than many assume. What fits well, what needs preparation, and where WordPress stays.
Fits well for
- Marketing and corporate sites
- Landing pages
- Multilingual sites
- Content that rarely changes
- When performance and security matter
Works with Astro – but needs preparation
- Many editors at once – with a headless CMS and roles, not via Markdown
- Fresh content every day – with a CMS connection and automated builds
- Login areas, comments, search – as islands or external services; the audit sorts this out
Where WordPress stays: the shop running WooCommerce. Cart, checkout and order management gain nothing from a static site. The route is headless: WordPress or WooCommerce remains the backend, Astro renders catalogue and content statically and fast.
How the migration works
- 1
Tech audit
Inventory, content, URL inventory and performance baseline of your current site.
- 2
URL mapping and 301 plan
Every old URL gets a target – nothing dead-ends.
- 3
Templates and content migration
Astro templates matched to what exists, content carried over, images optimized.
- 4
Checking SEO parity before launch
Redirects, metadata, Schema.org, sitemap, internal links and hreflang – all checked against the old site before it goes live.
- 5
Launch and Search Console monitoring
We watch crawl errors, indexing and rankings over the first weeks after launch.
Maintaining content after launch
After the migration your team either writes Markdown directly in the repository, works through a connected headless CMS with a familiar interface, or uses an AI-assisted workflow with human approval before every publish. More on the AI Astro website page.
What it costs
Tech audit 500–2,000 € depending on the scope of the existing site – after that, a fixed price for the migration. Simple marketing sites fall within the range of an Astro site starting at 5,000 €.
After launch, an optional Care plan from 40 €/month covers updates and monitoring. Extensions and special requests beyond that are billed at our hourly rate of 120 €/h.
Deliberately no flat package price: the scope of a migration depends too much on the existing site to price it seriously without an audit. The audit decides the scope, not a price tag set in advance.
What we don't promise
No ranking guarantee – rankings also depend on factors outside the migration. What we do commit to: technical parity and a complete redirect plan. No fixed timeline before the audit. And no 1:1 carry-over of every plugin feature – some plugins have no equivalent in a static site, which the audit clarifies upfront rather than afterward.
The proof: our own site
We deliberately show no customer cases here – the results of a migration depend too much on the starting point to generalize. What we can show is our own experience.
codeaeffchen.de runs on Astro – multilingual, with an insights section and service pages, delivered fully static. Lighthouse 95+ on the main pages. Not a special case, but the same architecture we also use for migrations.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a migration take?
That is only reliable after the tech audit. Small marketing sites are often migrated in a few weeks, large sites with many pages and content pieces take several months. A number before the audit would be a guess, not a commitment.
Will I lose rankings?
Not if URLs are kept or cleanly redirected with 301s, and metadata, Schema.org markup and internal links are matched. Short fluctuations in the days after launch are normal, because Google has to re-evaluate the new version. There is still no guarantee – rankings also depend on factors outside the migration.
How do I maintain content after the migration?
Three options are open: Markdown files directly in the repository (content collections), a headless CMS with a familiar editing interface, or an AI-assisted workflow with human approval before every publish. We work out what fits best with you before the migration.
What does the migration cost?
First a tech audit for 500–2,000 €, depending on the scope of the existing site. After that you get a fixed price for the migration itself. Simple marketing sites fall within the range of an Astro site starting at 5,000 €, larger or more complex sites cost more.
What happens to my plugins?
Forms, SEO metadata, sitemaps and redirects get rebuilt natively in Astro. For functionality without a static equivalent – a shop, login areas, comments – we name that openly beforehand instead of hiding it. Where needed, WordPress can stay in the background as a headless backend while Astro delivers the pages.
What our clients say
Straight from our Google Business Profile – quoted verbatim, not filtered by star rating.
How these reviews get here
The reviews come from our Google Business Profile. We pull them through Google's interface from time to time and store them unchanged in this page, rather than querying them on every visit. We do not write the wording ourselves and we do not change it; long texts are shortened for display, with a link to the full review on Google.
Once a project is finished we ask clients for a review. There is nothing in return – no discount, no voucher, no prize draw – and we ask regardless of how happy someone was.
We do not select by star rating. Which individual reviews Google hands over is Google's choice. The average and the total above are the profile's figures as of October 1, 2026 and cover every review, including the ones not shown here.
Whether the reviewers really were our clients we do not verify ourselves – we cannot. Google states that it acts against fake reviews; we have no influence on that.

A tech audit shows you what a migration means for your site in concrete terms – effort, scope and price, before anything is committed.
