YAYLA ARENA ran their website on Typo3 – a system the editorial team found difficult to use, hosted on underperforming infrastructure. Load times of 6 to 15 seconds were not the exception. The arena's event programme is packed: ice hockey, concerts, comedy, corporate events, ice specials. Every single event had to be maintained individually and at great effort.

The goal: a relaunch on WordPress with an event system that genuinely eases the YAYLA team's workload – fast to use, structured, without redundant effort. Ticketing continues via Eventim; the site presents and promotes, Eventim sells.

What we built

• Typo3-to-WordPress migration: content, page structure and redirects fully transferred
• Custom event system as a WordPress plugin with a structured input form – category, date, time, description, Eventim link
• Recurring event logic: repeating events (home games, event series) are created once and automatically generated for all dates
• Twig templates via Timber: clean separation of logic and presentation, flexible for different event types
• WP Rocket for performance optimisation: LCP from 6–15 seconds down to 2.9 seconds
• Hosting migration to performant infrastructure – one of the primary causes of the old load times
• Technical SEO: structured data for events, canonical tags, XML sitemap

Recurring event logic

The biggest time saving did not come from the migration, but from the recurring event logic. Before: every home game of the Krefeld Pinguine and every event series had to be created manually as an individual entry – same description, same category, just a different time slot. After: an event series is created once with its base data, and all individual dates are generated automatically. Changes to the description or category are applied across all dates in a series. This reduced the maintenance time for recurring events to practically zero.
